Ingredients

For the Hot Dogs

  • 4 all-beef hot dogs

  • 4 quality hot dog buns

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter, for the buns

  • No Manches Don Juan Original BBQ Sauce, for brushing and finishing

For the Toppings

  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or warm cheddar cheese sauce

  • 1–2 fresh jalapeños, thinly sliced

  • 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced or finely diced

  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

  • Extra No Manches Don Juan Original BBQ Sauce

Optional No Manches BBQ Drizzle

  • 1/3 cup No Manches Don Juan Original BBQ Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional

  • Pinch of chipotle powder, optional for extra heat

How to Make Loaded BBQ Hot Dogs

1. Get the Bacon Crispy

Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crispy.

Transfer it to paper towels to drain, then roughly chop or crumble it into bite-size pieces.

Don't crumble it too finely.

You want to actually taste that smoky bacon when you bite into the hot dog.

2. Make the No Manches BBQ Drizzle

In a small bowl, combine No Manches Don Juan Original BBQ Sauce with fresh lime juice.

For a slightly sweeter finish, add the honey.

Want more heat? Add a pinch of chipotle powder.

Mix everything together and set it aside.

This gives the Original BBQ Sauce a little extra brightness while keeping the BBQ flavor front and center.

3. Fire Up the Grill

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.

Place the hot dogs directly over the heat and grill them, turning occasionally, until they're heated through with some nice char around the outside.

During the last couple of minutes, lightly brush them with No Manches Don Juan Original BBQ Sauce.

Turn them carefully and let the sauce caramelize over the heat.

Don't walk away once the sauce goes on—the sugars can burn quickly.

4. Toast the Buns

Lightly brush the inside of each hot dog bun with melted butter.

Place the buns cut-side down on the grill for about a minute, just until they're warm and lightly toasted.

This little step makes a big difference.

A toasted bun tastes better and holds up to all the cheese and BBQ sauce we're about to pile onto it.

5. Add the Cheese

Place each grilled hot dog into a toasted bun.

Now add the cheese.

If you're using shredded cheddar, sprinkle it over the hot dog while everything is still hot so it begins to melt.

For the loaded look in your photograph, warm cheddar cheese sauce works especially well because you can drizzle it right over the hot dog.

And don't be shy.

We're making loaded hot dogs.

6. Load Them Up

Now we're going to make them look like the hot dogs in your photograph.

Top each one with:

Melted Cheddar Cheese

Crispy Bacon

Fresh Jalapeño Slices

Red Onion

Fresh Cilantro

If you made the lime-chipotle BBQ drizzle, finish with that right over the top.

You should have sweet, smoky, salty, cheesy, spicy and fresh flavors all in the same bite.

7. Serve Them Hot

Serve these immediately while the buns are warm, the cheese is melted and the BBQ sauce is still sticky.

Put some extra jalapeños and No Manches Don Juan Original BBQ Sauce on the table.

People can decide how far they want to take it.

🔥 Don Juan's Hot Dog Tips

Start with a good-quality all-beef hot dog. When the recipe is this simple, the quality of the hot dog matters.

Grill instead of boiling whenever possible. That little bit of char adds another layer of BBQ flavor.

Brush on the BBQ sauce near the end of grilling so it caramelizes without burning.

Toast your buns. You're loading these with cheese, bacon and sauce, so a stronger toasted bun helps hold everything together.

Fresh jalapeños give you a crisp, bright heat. If you prefer something milder and tangier, use pickled jalapeños.

And keep extra sauce nearby.

You already know why.
